That was fantastic. I've never considered the idea of cartoons being boring because they're so predictable, but you're absolutely right. A bit of unpredictability can be great. I saw the new "Twisters" movie recently, and the first half of the movie was almost identical to the first one, so I (thought I) knew exactly where it was heading, and I was wrong. It was fantastic.
The political part of your post is something I've noticed in my world lately too. As a 48-year-old white male Christian, people automatically lump me in a certain group politically, and they're almost always wrong. I don't want to be unpredictable just for the sake of being unpredictable, but I also never want one part of my life to dictate what other parts need to look like.
Because ... you are terrific writer, a steady friend, an amazing mother ... You are right. No cartooning your character.
